Inversion is a movement operation by
which the order of two expressions is reversed.
For example, if we want to turn this question "Who is Mark?" into a statement, we have to invert the order of verb which will be after the noun. This would be the correct expression: "I want to know who Mark is."
When you start teaching inversion, you realize how much your students hate you. And you heard them complaining that it's not fair! Haha!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the information!
ReplyDeleteIncidentally, I do know who Mark is. It's a snail. (but do not tell Virginia Woolf)
